HUMAN WORLD

Info for Karakura High School

Karakura High School is the school that Karakura Town residents Ichigo Kurosaki, Orihime Inoue, Sado Yasutora and Uryū Ishida, amongst others, attend. The high school is a major focus point of the early parts of Bleach, up until Ichigo launched an attempt to rescue Rukia Kuchiki. After this, the school plays a greatly reduced role in the series, as it focuses upon events elsewhere.

About Kagamino City

Kagamino City is a population center of unknown size in Japan in the Human World. It is situated 22Km east of Karakura Town. When Sōsuke Aizen invades Karakura Town, the Spiritual Power being emitted from the combined armies of Aizen and the Shinigami can be felt in Kagamino City, despite the large distance between the two areas. At this time, there are a number of normal Hollows roaming the town, pursuing a Plus. Some of the Hollows are crushed under the weight of the Spiritual Power. It is unknown if the subsequent battle in Karakura Town had any further effect upon Kagamino City, as this is the only occasion where Kagamino has been shown.

In the anime, the Shinigami Eikichirō Saidō was recently charged with protecting Kagamino.

About Karakura Town

Karakura Town (空座町, Karakurachō) is a fictional Western Tokyo city in the Human World, where the story of Bleach begins. It is also the home town of the main character, Ichigo Kurosaki. It seems to be a small city with an average population that resembles the real world. Humans that live in Karakura Town are unaware of the ghosts and spiritual forces that live there.

Sōsuke Aizen seeks to destroy Karakura Town to make a copy of the King's Key. Karakura Town is referred to as District 3600 by the Shinigami and is situated on the current "juureichi" - the point in the Human World that possess the greatest concentration of spiritual beings.

History

Agent of the Shinigami arc
Bount arc (anime only)
Note: Events occurring in this arc are only in the anime and do not constitute canon material.

The entire Bount arc took place here, specifically from episodes 64 to 91. The events that took place here was the mod soul training, this is where Ririn, Kurōdo, and Noba are introduced into the series, Jin Kariya and the Bounts are introduced, as well as his aims to consume living spirits and gain massive amounts of power. As the series progressed, however, he reveals that his plans are to invade Soul Society along with the remaining Bounts. However, they are defeated by the Shinigami, while Kariya is killed by Ichigo. The bitto came and the lieutenants were sent here. It concluded when Uryū temporally got his Quincy powers back and opened the portal to the Soul Society.

Arrancar arc

Fake Karakura Town arcKnowing that Aizen and the Espada were planning to destroy Karakura Town to create the king's key, Mayuri Kurotsuchi and the 12th Division constructed a perfect replica of Karakura Town in a remote corner of Soul Society and switched it with the real one after putting all the people of the town into a deep sleep[3].

Head Captain Yamamoto and his battalion of warriors were met by Sōsuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen and the top 3 Espada, Coyote Starrk, Barragan Luisenbarn and Tia Harribel, who in turn were accompanied by their Fracción. The battle was on. Wondering what to do, Yamamoto encases Aizen, Gin and Tōsen within a scorching prison of fire called Jokaku Enjo, keeping Aizen at bay.

To hold the fake Karakura inside of the real world, four towers were put in place, but these towers are soon targeted by Barragan and four of his Fracción. Yumichika Ayasegawa, Izuru Kira, Shūhei Hisagi and Ikkaku Madarame are sent to defend those towers. While the first three towers are successfully defended, Ikkaku is defeated by the Arrancar Choe Neng Poww because he refused to release his Bankai and fight at his full strength, and one of the towers falls as a result. Before Karakura begins to partially reappear in the real world, Sajin Komamura and Tetsuzaemon Iba arrive and Komamura kills Poww while Tetsuzaemon uses some type of rods to keep the Fake Karakura Town from disappearing. The final two of Barragan's Fracción, Ggio Vega and Nirgge Parduoc were bested by the 2nd Division.

Shortly after, Rangiku Matsumoto and Momo Hinamori took on Harribel's Fracción, Apache, Mila-Rose and Sun-Sun. As the Shinigami took the lead, the Fracción summoned their terrible monster Allon. The creature defeated the two women before defeating Shūhei Hisagi and Tetsuzaemon Iba also. Stepping in to help, Captain Commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto desecrated the creature with a massive inferno before finishing off Harribel's Fracción in a single blow and leaving Izuru Kira and Sajin Komamura to tend to the defeated. Meanwhile, Jūshirō Ukitake battled Starrk's Second Being, Lilynette Gingerback, comically pushing her aside with every attempt she made and even stealing her Zanpakutō.

Sensing the deaths of her Fracción, Harribel went on the offensive, unzipping her jacket to reveal her Espada tattoo, 3 and her Hollow mask, crushing Tōshirō Hitsugaya as he released his Bankai. She then proceeded to release her Zanpakutō; Attack, Tiburón in an effort to end the fight and take on Yamamoto. After she transformed, the female Espada launched her attack, slicing the captain in half. However, it was revealed that Tōshirō had used a special ability that created a magical ice mirror, but he couldn't use it more than once. Attacking Harribel, she retaliated by defeating every attack he used before pummeling him with a torrent of water. The captain froze it all before launching it back at her as daggers, but the Espada unleashed a large, albeit weak Cero. Tōshirō then decided to end the fight with his ultimate attack, one never before used in his Bankai; Tensō Jūrin. Harribel attempted to block the attack but was encased within an enormous obelisk of ice flowers, the captain explaining that when the final flower fell, her life would end. Harribel is then presumed dead.

Meanwhile, Soifon and her lieutenant, Marechiyo Ōmaeda had attempted to challenge the 2nd Espada, Barragan Luisenbarn after defeating the final two of his Fracción. The elderly Espada is seen standing tall, the Shinigami tiring against him. Disappointed, Barragan removes his Zanpakutō from his throne of bones; a gigantic battle axe and threatened to split them in half. Here, Ōmaeda pleaded with Soifon to break their limits, but she responded by saying they are fighting at full strength already. Deciding to go on the offense, the Shinigami attempts to speed behind the Arrancar, aiming a kick for his head, but for some reason she slows down as she reaches him, Barragan grabbing her foot and launching her into a nearby rooftop. Noticing Soifon's confused expression, Barragan explained that each Espada governs a means of death for humans, his being Old Age, or Time, which he says is the most powerful. Deciding that Soifon is still puzzled, Barragan grows weary and releases his Zanpakutō; Rot, Arrogante. Locked in a whirling twister of black flame, Barragan arises, a deathly villainous skeleton king, befitted with a flowing black robe and a gold crown. Here, he demonstrates his powers by sending a wave of black mist towards the Shinigami, called Respira, Soifon turning to flee. However her arm was caught by it and it decayed instantly, her flesh rotting away down to the bone. Screaming for Ōmaeda, he sliced off her arm, Barragan gloating. Soifon then says she has a plan and disappears, leaving Ōmaeda to run, screaming for help as Barragan chased him, unaware of the captain preparing her Bankai in the streets below. Messing around with the lieutenant, the Espada eventually grows bored and is ready to kill Ōmaeda with his Gran Caída ability, an intimidating black axe that is linked to him by chains. However, a light shoots up from behind them and Barragan turns to see Soifon emerge with her Bankai, Jakuhō Raikōben, an enormous missile strapped to her arm. Before the Hollow can react, she fires it at him, resulting in a colossal explosion which throws everyone back and the Espada disappears in a plume of smoke, Soifon being congratulated by her partner. Barragan is presumed dead.

At the same time, Shunsui battles Starrk, who took off his glove to reveal he was the 1st Espada. Annoyed at Shunsui's constant fleeing, Starrk fired a powerful Cero without having to move, surprising the captain. Becoming aggravated, Starrk watched as Tōshirō unleashed his Tensō Jūrin upon Harribel and Soifon fired her Jakuhō Raikōben at Barragan. Intrigued, the Espada asked his opponent if every Bankai was that strong, to which Kyōraku nodded. Even more interested, Starrk became determined to see his Bankai, and sheathed his sword. He then called Lilynette over, who was being beaten down by Ukitake still. Explaining that both he and Lilynette are one, Starrk reveals that when Hollows became Arrancar and sword, he became two Arrancar due to his power. The Espada then clutches the girl's head, releasing his Zanpakutō with the command; 'Kick, Los Lobos'. Shunsui then activates his Zanpakutō, Katen Kyōkotsu. They then proceed to fuse together, Lilynette becoming Starrk's weapons, a pair of dual handguns and a fiery eyepiece. The Espada is then draped with a fur lined coat and tight black trousers with knee high fur boots. After a short argument with his Fracción turned weapon, he is surprised by a sudden attack from his opponent, however he manages to dodge it, commenting on Shunsui's change of personality. However, the captain doesn't hear him out and activates his swords ability, revealing it to be able to harness wind and locks Starrk in a wind tornado, obscuring his vision. Leaping above his opponent, Kyōraku prepares to finish the fight with a move called Taka Oni, but the Arrancar parries it by blasting a huge Cero from his gun at the Shinigami, Shunsui narrowly dodging it. They then talk, Kyōraku asking if his gun shoots something else beside Cero, to which Starrk declines. However, the captain ponders as to whether or not he is lying. Sighing, Starrk tells the captain he had better show him his Bankai for making him release. However, Shunsui seems mildly unimpressed, saying there's no way he will use Bankai if all Starrk does is fire a Cero. However, the Espada activates an ability called Cero Metralleta. Here he unleashes a barrage of Ceros at Shunsui, the captain narrowly avoiding them, only for Starrk to spin around, the Ceros following. Suddenly, Ukitake leaps in front of him and activates his blade, 'Sōgyo no Kotowari', which blasts back a strange, Cero like attack. Starrk asks how he performed such a move but Ukitake claims he will have to figure it out himself. They repeat three more times and already, Starrk knows, deciding that the attack is absorbed through one sword, hastened along the string connecting the blades and then fired from the other sword, slightly faster than normal so as to throw the opponent off balance. Ukitake is impressed but Starrk says that he doubts Ukitake can stop 1000 Ceros at once. However, the arrival of Wonderweiss Margera interrupts the battle.

Through an enormous Garganta, Wonderweiss Margera arrives alongside Fūrā, a huge Hollow that Sajin Komamura recognises as the one that helped Aizen escape Soul Society. Wonderweiss then suddenly punches his hand straight through Ukitake, who falls, bleeding profusely. Angered, Kyōraku attempts to kill the Arrancar, but is shot down by Starrk from behind who apologises, but says that if Wonderweiss has arrived then Aizen must want to end it. Wonderweiss then lets out a loud battle cry which shatters the ice surrounding Harribel, the Espada glaring evilly at a shocked Tōshirō. The smoke around Baraggan is then blown away and the skeleton king arises, completely unharmed, Soifon and Ōmaeda terrified. Then, Fūrā blows out Yamamoto's flame prison, Aizen, Ichimaru and Tōsen stepping free to a scared Soul Society. Just as all hope seems lost, the Vizard arrive on the scene, much to Aizen's chagrin.

After deciding they don't wish to talk to anyone in the Gotei 13 (with the exception of Lisa Yadomaru), Shinji Hirako is asked by Yamamoto if they are on their side. Shinji says no, and they are just enemies of Aizen's on Ichigo Kurosaki's side. Then, Fūrā vomits out a sludge which forms into a group of Menos Grande. The Vizard then summon their Hollow masks and attack the Menos, displaying their great power by destroying the Hollows at an incredible speed. Shinji then appears in front of his former lieutenant, readying his blade to end the fight. However, he's interrupted by Kaname Tōsen, who attempts to cut off his head. Sajin Komamura intervenes and finds it ironic that he's protecting someone Tōsen is trying to fight. Tōsen states that he knew him and Komamura would cross swords one day and is not surprised at the situation. Shūhei Hisagi decides to join in the battle against Tōsen as well, even though he is still injured. After Starrk and Barragan are killed by Kyōraku and Hachigen Ushōda respectively, Aizen decides to take matters into his own hands and cuts down Harribel while fighting the Vizard. Aizen than tells Gin and Kaname that it's time to go.

Sora Inoue dies after being rushed to the clinic.
Ichigo initially meets Rukia Kuchiki here and finds out about Hollows and Shinigami.
The clinic suffers damage from a Hollow's attack. However, the family believes that this was caused by a truck crashing into it.
During a multi-car accident, the clinic treats many of the the victims, including Yasutora Sado.
Renji Abarai breaks in the clinic, several times, and during at least one of these incidents, he is armed.

About Karakura Hospital

Karakura General Hospital is the main medical facility in Karakura Town, located beside Karkaura's Honchou train station. While the Kurosaki Clinic handles minor cases, the General Hospital is equipped to handle much more serious cases and larger incidents, catering to residents from both inside and outside of Karakura Town. The current director of the hospital is Ryūken Ishida. Ryūken has an office in the hospital, with a large window, curtains, a desk and bookcases stocked full to capacity with large books.

Ryūken has constructed a secret training area in the hospital. It is unknown when it was built, or where exactly it is inside the hospital, but grass can be seen just outside its windows, suggesting that it is at ground level. The training area has multiple levels, and these windows are on the upper levels, meaning that much of the room must be underground, forming the basement of the hospital. There are no furnishings or objects visible in the chamber.

The only known physical access to the room is via a large door which appears to be on the lowest level of the chamber. The door does not appear to have handles, or any obvious means to open it from either side. Outside this door, there is a staircase leading upwards, presumably providing access to the main part of the hospital. Kisuke Urahara uses an unspecified ability to break into the training area, appearing to cut a hole through space. Isshin Kurosaki also gained entry to this hidden area, though he does not explain how he did so when questioned on it by Ryūken.

The chamber is constructed from soul-synthesized-silver (霊化銀, reika gin) and soul-synthesized-glass (霊化硝子, reika gurasu). While it is evidently strong, it is unable to fully withstand numerous strikes from arrows without sustaining damage. When Ryūken fights Uryū Ishida in this chamber, the are multiple pock-marks and holes in the walls and floor from Quincy Spirit Arrows and Gintō. The chamber also does not completely block out reiatsu, as Uryū is able to sense that the Shinigami are fighting Arrancar outside during his training in this room.

It is in this hidden room that Ryūken fights Uryū to the point of exhaustion, shooting him in the chest with a Spirit Arrow in order to restore the abilities he lost due to the Quincy Final Form. It is unconfirmed if Ryūken himself used this hidden chamber to train or practice, or if it was constructed solely to aid Uryū in regaining his powers.

There is also a hidden storehouse inside the hospital, possibly within the training area itself. Uryū took five Seele Schneider from this place to aid in the invasion of Hueco Mundo.

About Urahara Shop

Urahara Shop (浦原商店, Urahara Shōten) is a shop located in Karakura Town. While it is no more than an average store on the outside, it is a shop that caters to Shinigami needs. This shop serves as the base of operation for its owner, Kisuke Urahara, and all of its employees possess great spiritual abilities. Rukia Kuchiki comes here from time to time to either buy something while staying with Ichigo Kurosaki in the Human World or gain information from Urahara himself; Renji Abarai stays here when he has missions to the Human World. Occasionally, a small van can be seen outside the store, but it has never been used for anything.

Underneath the store lies a giant room designed by Urahara in resemblance to the training field he created in Soul Society. It is used as a secret base/training ground and contains a Senkaimon arc to travel to Soul Society, as well as an unnamed, recently created gate that creates a Garganta.

About Urahara's Training Ground

Before beginning his mission into Soul Society to rescue Rukia Kuchiki, Urahara Kisuke takes Ichigo Kurosaki to a huge secret training ground beneath the Urahara Shop, intended to resemble the Sōkyoku Hill training ground. Here, over a period of several days, Urahara helps Ichigo regain his lost Shinigami powers and teaches him the basic techniques of Shinigami combat. Ichigo's partial transformation into a Hollow also takes place here, and Urahara opens the Senkaimon into Soul Society from this room.

The Urahara Shop training ground is a large room with a ceiling and walls painted to resemble a cloudy sky over a floor of desolate, brown, craggy land dotted with dead trees. Urahara claims to have built the room, using Soul Society's technology, in a single day and night.

The final, staged confrontation between the Ryoka and the Mod Souls Ririn, Kurōdo and Noba also takes place in the training ground.

The training ground is used again by Yasutora Sado as he spars with Renji Abarai to master higher levels of his power; from there, Ichigo, Chad, and Uryū Ishida make their way through the garganta into Hueco Mundo.

Sōkyoku Hill training ground
Urahara styled his shop's secret training ground on one he built beneath Sōkyoku Hill while young. In this training ground, he and Yoruichi Shihōin would play and train. When Ichigo Kurosaki narrowly escapes defeat by Byakuya Kuchiki, Yoruichi takes him to this training ground in order that he might rapidly attain bankai through use of the Tenshintai. Renji also attains bankai in this space.

While very similar in apperance to the Urahara Shop's training ground, the Sōkyoku Hill training ground also sports a hot springs whose waters have the power of healing injuries[3].

Vizard warehouse training ground

Beneath the Vizard's warehouse hideout is another secret training ground, bearing a strong resemblance to those beneath the Urahara Shop and the Sōkyoku Hill. Ichigo's mastery of his inner hollow and his training with the Vizard takes place here; Orihime Inoue also meets and befriends Hachigen Ushōda here as he heals Tsubaki.

Karakura Hospital training ground
Ryūken Ishida has constructed a training area inside Karakura Hospital. In this stark, metallic chamber, Ryūken fights Uryū to exhaustion, finally shooting him with a Quincy Spirit Arrow to restore his lost abilities.

Secret training grounds are a recurring theme in Bleach. Characters frequently study to improve or master their powers in large hidden rooms, which are often decorated in such a way as to have the appearance of an outdoor wilderness on a sunny day.

SOUL SOCIETY

About Rukongai
Rukongai (流魂街, wandering soul city), also known as the Rukon District in the English Dub, is the largest portion of Soul Society and the most populated. It is divided into 320 districts (80 in North Rukongai, 80 in West Rukongai, etc.), each numbered in descending order on how far they are from the center; this results in the higher-numerated (and farther) districts decaying into slums. Thus, while District 1 is peaceful and lawful, much like the antiseptic lifestyle of early-Edo Era Kyoto, District 80 is a hardscrabble, violent, crime-infested area that more depicts Heian era Kyoto. There is no indication that the Shinigami or any other agencies patrol the streets of Rukongai (though there is some form of organized crime, has seen during the Bount arc), and as a result, the citizenry are mainly responsible for their day-to-day welfare. Shinigami, such as Rangiku Matsumoto, have however, been seen to travel among the districts of Rukongai, which seem to have many shops or market stalls offering goods for sale.

An area of the Rukongai.101 years ago, many souls in Rukongai mysteriously vanished due to the experiments of Sōsuke Aizen. These occurrences continued for about a month before the Shinigami sent Kensei Muguruma and a team from the 9th Division to investigate. The Vizard were Hollowified in a forest in the west of the 6th ward of the Fugai District on the same that the 9th Division team arrived to begin their investigation. Tessai Tsukabishi used forbidden Kidō to teleport the Vizard back to the lab of Kisuke Urahara in Seireitei in a bid to save them.

Known Districts
So far, only five names of Rukongai districts are known:

1 - Junrinan (潤林安), part of West Rukongai
Tōshirō Hitsugaya, Momo Hinamori, and Jidanbō Ikkanzaka, the West Gate Keeper, came from here. When Ichigo comes to Soul Society, the spirit of Yūichi Shibata, the boy who inhabited Yasutora Sado's cockatiel, also comes to reside here. According to Sōsuke Aizen, West Rukongai is also the "headquarters" of Kisuke Urahara.
3 - Hokutan (北端), part of West Rukongai
Kaien Shiba trained Rukia Kuchiki here on Mt. Koifushi.[3]
78 - Inuzuri (lit. howling dog), the South Alley of Flowing Spirits
Hisana Kuchiki was sent here with Rukia when they died. Both Rukia Kuchiki and Renji Abarai grew up here.
79 - Kusajishi (草鹿), the North Alley of Loitering Spirits
Yachiru Kusajishi was found here by Kenpachi Zaraki.
80 - Zaraki (更木), the North Alley of Loitering Spirits
Captain Kenpachi Zaraki originated from here.

About Seireitei
Seireitei (瀞霊廷, court of pure souls) is in the center of Soul Society. It is a circular shiro with four main entrances, ten days walk apart,, each guarded by a Gate Guardian. These gates are called the Black Ridge Gate (in the North), the Blue Stream Gate (in the East), the Red Hollow Gate (in the South) and the White Way Gate (in the West). The gates are so heavy that it takes the full might of Jidanbō Ikkanzaka to lift one, while during the Bount-led attack on Seireitei, siege machines where needed to open the gates. There are, however, doors within the gates, as seen when Momo Hinamori first entered the Shinigami Academy.

The walls of Seireitei are made of Sekkiseki (殺気石, spirit reducing stone), a rare type of stone known to negate all Reiryoku, similar to magnetic lodestones, which prevents the ability to gather Reishi underneath your feet to walk in the air whist within Seireitei. The stone also forms a spherical barrier around the city, extending above and below, stopping anything spiritual from breaching it from ground level, from the sky or from underground.

The majority of the residents of Seireitei, nobility and Shinigami alike, do not interact with the citizens of Rukongai. However, residents of Rukongai, like Renji and Rukia, are allowed to apply for the Shinigami Academy, which is often the only escape from the poorest conditions of Rukongai.

Seireitei LocationsAt the center of Seireitei are the

Senzaikyū (Shrine of Penitence): a large white tower, located at the center of the Seireitei and Sōkyoku Hill where executions take place, on the flat summit. Through the Sōkyoku (双).
Also located within Seireitei's walls.

Central 46 Compound: A underground complex that is highly restricted. The offices and living quarters of the central government of Soul Society.

About Nest of Maggots

The Nest of Maggots is a prison under the supervision of the third corps (known as the Detention Unit) of the Onmitsukidō. It is located on the grounds of the Second Division, and is surrounded by a moat. On the inside, it resembles a cave with an area for prisoners.
When a Shinigami becomes a potential danger to other Shinigami and Soul Society, that Shinigami is brought to the Maggot's Nest for imprisonment, regardless if they were put on trial; this is to ensure no danger will be brought to Soul Society. All prisoners are not held inside a cell (since they cannot set foot outside the prison). The exception is the Maggot's Nest's infamous former resident: Mayuri Kurotsuchi, considered at the time an exceptionally dangerous person. Treatment for the prisoners is mostly lenient; they can walk freely and converse with one another, but the bleak setting drives many to madness.

Neither the staff (called jailers) of the Detention Unit nor any other visitors are permitted to carry a Zanpakutō into the Maggot's Nest; visitors must deposit them at the entrance. This measure means that the jailers are required to be able to control the prisoners with bare hands. If a Shinigami desires to enter and is not adept at hand-to-hand combat, they may not enter. This is to prevent rebellions and escapes from the prison.

Kisuke Urahara, as Corps Commander of the Detention Unit, was once in charge of the Maggot's Nest before being promoted to Captain of the 12th Division. During a visit, he demonstrated to Hiyori Sarugaki that he is capable of subduing even the most physically powerful prisoner in the Maggot's Nest with his bare hands, which he described as a key requirement of the Detention Unit Commander's position.

About Central 46 Compound

The Central 46 Chambers Compound is a highly restricted area in the Seireitei in Soul Society. Most of the building is underground, with only a small portion visible from the surface. In the anime, it was depicted as a circular building in the center of a body of water, surrounded by a wall with a single gateway. Access to the main building was via a bridge. It houses the Central 46, the central government of Soul Society. The Central 46 rules Soul Society on behalf of the Spirit King. They make all of Soul Society's laws and try those who are charged with breaking them, whether the crime was committed in Soul Society or in the Human World. Following the massacre of the Central 46 at the hands of Sōsuke Aizen during the Soul Society arc, and Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto subsequently taking over their normal duties, the compound has lost much of its former status as one of the most important places in Seireitei.

The Underground Assembly Hall is where the Central 46 meets. It is an octagonal structure located in a large open space within the main building, and was also referred to as the Diet Building. Beyond the entrance to this structure there is a staircase leading down into the hall. The benches and high-backed chairs of the 40 wise men are arranged in two concentric rings, one higher than the other, surrounding an open area. In the walls there are recesses with stairs leading up to them, where the six judges are seated. There are large banners on its walls. It has thirteen levels of protection to keep out or at least stall intruders. During Aizen's rebellion, the Assembly Hall was placed under lock down.

Notable events to occur in the Assembly Hall are the massacre of the Central 46 by Aizen, the manipulation of Rukia Kuchiki's execution, and the trial of Kisuke Urahara, which took place 101 years before the start of the story. On this occasion, the members of the Central 46 sat behind numbered screens to maintain their anonymity. The Hall was kept in darkness during the trial, with the only lights shining upon Urahara and his co-accused, Tessai Tsukabishi.

The Tranquil Forest of Residential Towers. The Tranquil Forest of Residential Towers (Seijōtōkyorin, 清浄塔居林; literally translated as Pure Pagoda Forest) is where the Central 46's members reside. It is the only place in all of Seireitei that is completely off limits to all except the Central 46, no matter what reason they may have. The residences are tall, thin tower-like buildings with the entrance raised off of the ground and accessed via a short stairway, with a wooden walkway surrounding the building. There is a tall, narrow window in the wall starting just above the door that continues to the top of the tower. Little of the interior is seen beyond the entrance, with no furnishings visible. It is unknown if there is only one floor, or if there are multiple levels inside the towers. Although it is unconfirmed, the area being referred to as a forest suggests that there are likely 46 of them. It is not revealed if there is a difference between the residences of the wise men and the judges.

Notable events to occur here are the reunion of Aizen and Momo Hinamori, and the confrontation between Aizen and 10th Division Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya.

editGreat Spirit LibraryAlso known as the Daireishokairo, the Great Spirit Library is a repository of all the knowledge and history of the Soul Society. This is another area to which access is restricted. As a result, few are familiar with its inner workings even among the captains. Ukitake was placed in charge of investigating the library's circuits to identify anything that Aizen may have researched during the time in which he was believed to be dead.Ukitake's investigation discovered that Aizen had accessed much data on the Hōgyoku and the King's Key.

About Sōkyoku Hill
The Sōkyoku Hill is an iconic, large, rocky mesa located at the center of Seireitei in Soul Society, where it is overlooked by the Shrine of Penitence. The hill is visible from most of Seireitei and is one of the most easily recognizable locations in Bleach. It has sheer cliffs on all sides. There are two known access points to the Sōkyoku Hill - a long bridge connecting to the Shrine of Penitence complex and a long, zigzagging stairway carved into one side of the Hill. One end of the Hill is heavily undercut. It is at this point that the Sōkyoku and the bridge are located. The opposite end is covered by white forest.
When he was young, Kisuke Urahara dug a large cavern beneath the Sōkyoku Hill, which was to be used as a secret training area. It is accessed via a small cave in the side of one of the Hill's sheer cliffs. In this training ground, he and Yoruichi Shihōin would play and train. Ichigo Kurosaki and Renji Abarai both train to attain Bankai in this cavern.

The Sōkyoku Hill is the scene of many key events in the Bleach. The execution ceremony of Rukia Kuchiki took place here, as did several battles, including Ichigo's final fight with Byakuya Kuchiki and the final battle between the Bount leader Jin Kariya. It was central to the plot of Sōsuke Aizen to acquire the Hōgyoku. Not only was the Sōkyoku his intended method of gaining the Hōgyoku, but it was also the place where Menos Grande arrived and enveloped Aizen, Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen in Negación to allow them to escape from Soul Society. The Sōkyoku Hill is also the location where Muramasa confronted the Shinigami about their Zanpakutō in the anime-exclusive Zanpakutō Unknown Tales arc.

About Shinou Academy
Shinōreijutsuin (Spiritual Arts Academy): sometimes called the Shinigami Academy. This is the academy founded by Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto some 2,000 years ago. It was once called the Shinigami Academy. It changed to spiritual Arts Academy when it developed into an institute for the next generation of the Kidō Corps and the Onmitsukidō as well as the Shinigami of the Gotei 13. In Rukongai, it is still referred to as Shinigami Academy. The academy, which is located in Seireitei, trains future Shinigami for each of the three military arms of Soul Society. Also, the academy is not under the jurisdiction of the Central 46 Chambers.

Appearance
The Institute is a sprawling, multiple story building with architecture typical of Seireitei. It has an open courtyard, many class rooms, dormitories and practice areas for Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hohō, and Kidō.

Uniform
The uniform of the Academy is similar to the standard Shinigami Shihakushō uniform, but with a different colour scheme. This consists of a red shitagi (under shirt), a white kosode (shirt) with red stripes, red hakama (trousers), white socks and sandals for women. There is a circular symbol on both breasts of the outer shirt. This appears to be the emblem of the Academy. For the male version of the uniform, the red is replaced with blue.

Admission to the Academy
Applicants to the academy must pass an entrance exam in order to be admitted, and likely must demonstrate that they have some Spiritual Energy. The entrance exam seems to be open to any and all who wish to apply, resulting in a wide range of individuals (of any age) joining, from nobles and residents of the more hospitable districts of Rukongai to its more barbaric outer regions. The results of the entrance exam are used to divide up the successful applicants into different classes, with those who obtain the highest grades being placed in the first class. At the start of the academic year, there is a welcoming ceremony for the new students. If an applicant fails the exam, it may be taken again, though presumably only in the subsequent year. Shūhei Hisagi failed the entrance exam twice, only passing on his third attempt. Despite this, he went on to become a Lieutenant in the Gotei 13.

Academy Curriculum
The Academy's curriculum is taught over six-years, though exceptionally gifted students have been known to graduate from the academy in less time than this, such as Kaien Shiba and Gin Ichimaru. In addition to a more general education, the pupils are taught how to control and make use of their Spiritual Energy, as well as the four major Shinigami combat forms of Hakuda, Hohō, Kidō and Zanjutsu. Students also learn how to perform Soul Burials, learning to communicate with the spirit of their Zanpakutō and are prepared for the general duties of a Shinigami. Upon completing the Academy's curriculum, a student will then apply to join a division of the Gotei 13, Kidō Corps or Onmitsukidō.

On occasion, highly talented Shinigami may be admitted to a squad, or even granted a seated position with a squad before completing the full curriculum, or partake in missions with a squad, as Shūhei Hisagi did. The importance of the Academy is undermined somewhat by the influence of the Great Noble Houses, as seen when Byakuya Kuchiki used his influence to have Rukia Kuchiki graduate immediately upon adopting her into the Kuchiki clan, and organized an unseated position with the 13th Division for her.

Teachers
The following is a list of the known teachers (past and present) at the Shinou Institute:

Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto: Founded the Institute and known to have taught Jūshirō Ukitake and Shunsui Kyōraku.
Gengorō Ōnabara: Chief Instructor for Class #1: the special accelerated class. He was the chief instructor for Renji, Hinamori and Kira.
Sōsuke Aizen: Taught an optional calligraphy class at the academy, which was so popular that students had to sit in corridors for the lectures due to the numbers attending.
Izuru Kira: Teaches a class on Haiku at the academy.
List of Graduates Renji Abarai: He was part of Class #1: the special accelerated program.
Renji graduated in the 2066th year of the Academy
Momo Hinamori: She was part of the Class #1, the special accelerated program with Renji and Kira.
Shūhei Hisagi: He succeeded in entering the academy after previously failing his first two entrance exams. However, once there, his talent came to be noticed and he was frequently given mission from the Gotei 13 even thought he had not yet graduated. Because of this he was famous among the other students. He was a sixth year when Renji, Hinamori and Kira were first years.
Tōshirō Hitsugaya: He was convinced by Rangiku to enter the Academy in order to learn to control his spiritual pressure, which was making his grandmother ill.
Gin Ichimaru: He completed the six year course in just one year and because of this is considered a genius.
Izuru Kira: He was part of the Class #1, the special accelerated program with Renji and Hinamori.
Sajin Komamura: Known to have attended the academy but nothing else is known about his time there.
Rukia Kuchiki: She joined the academy at the same time as Renji but graduated early due to the influence of the Kuchiki Family.
Shunsui Kyōraku: Along with Jūshirō Ukitake, he was the first graduates of the Shinou Institute to become Captains in the Gotei 13.
Rangiku Matsumoto: She join the institute at the same time as Ichimaru.
Kaien Shiba: He completed the six year course in just two years and because of this is considered a genius.
Kaname Tōsen: Known to have attended the academy but nothing else is known about his time there.
Jūshirō Ukitake: He along with Shunsui Kyōraku, he was the first graduates of the Shinou Institute to become Captains in the Gotei 13.
Trivia
During one of the Academy's training missions to the Human World, two sixth year students, Kanisawa and Aoga, were killed when the group was attacked by Huge Hollows.

HUECO MUNDO

About Forest of Menos
The Forest of Menos, introduced during an anime-only filler, is an area below the surface of Hueco Mundo's desert where the average Hollow hide from the Arrancar. Gillian- and Adjuchas-class Menos dwell here, along with possibly Vasto Lorde-class Menos. The forest is filled with large trees made of a silvery quartz substance. These trees extend to the surface and dot the landscape of the desert in Hueco Mundo. Aizen and the Arrancar have a considerable amount of influence here, judging by a large group of Hollows bowing down upon seeing an Arrancar. The Adjuchas in charge of the Forest of Menos are under the command of Sōsuke Aizen.

Ashido Kanō, a Shinigami, also resides in this area after being stranded during an assault on some Hollows which had invaded the Soul Society. His current status after helping Ichigo and his friends escape is unknown.

In the Zanpakutō Unknown Tales arc, Muramasa appears limping through what appears to be the Forest of Menos.

Trivia
The Forest of Menos' original name was to be Arbolada de al Menos (Bosque de los Menos in the English manga).
The Forest of Menos along with Ashido Kanō were to be in the Hueco Mundo arc of the manga, but were cut due to time constrictions.

About Las Noches
Las Noches (虚夜宮(ラス・ノーチェス), Rasu Nōchesu; Spanish for "The Nights", Japanese for "Hollow Night Palace") is the fortress located in Hueco Mundo and base of operations of Sōsuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen after their defection from Soul Society. They reside there with their army of Arrancar complete with medical facilities and detention wings. This was also Baraggan Luisenbarn's castle when he was still the King of Hueco Mundo. However, during Baraggan's reign it had no roof or walls. Indeed, Barragan scorned at the idea of a roof claiming that as he was the King of Hueco Mundo and as such the sky of Hueco Mundo was his ceiling.

Las Noches is a massive fortress which can be seen for miles in Hueco Mundo. It consists of a main building with a domed center surrounded by several large towers and smaller buildings. Atop the dome are six smaller towers (or as they appear), which seem to contain areas such as Aizen's throne room and the Espada meeting hall. Also, in the room where Orihime Inoue is kept, there is one large Middle-Eastern rug on the ground that is facing outside, much like those in rooms used for Islamic prayer. Like everything else in Hueco Mundo, the main building is colored white.

Las Noches is easily the largest building structure in the Bleach universe, appearing as large as (if not larger than) Seireitei in Soul Society. Due to its immense size, Ichigo Kurosaki once commented that it could be an illusion as he, Chad, and Uryū Ishida did not seem to make any progress getting closer to it, despite running until they were exhausted. Also, according to the Arrancar Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, it takes about three days to move from one spot to a gate.

The inside of Las Noches' dome simulate the living world and Soul Society's blue sky, which Aaroniero Arruruerie claims is so the light of the sky will help Aizen observe anywhere he wishes. However, since Aaroniero must stay out of the sunlight to use his abilities, Rukia Kuchiki speculates this is a lie. Though because Ichigo was able to break through the dome and escape to fight Ulquiorra, its more than likely that the area under the dome is like Urahara's training ground, due to the sky and seemingly endless plains. The position of the halls within the palace can also be adjusted, allowing the one operating them to direct the movements of intruders.

Due to their immense power, the top four Espada are forbidden from releasing their Zanpakutō within Las Noches. It is later justified by the battle between Ulquiorra and Ichigo, as their fight above the dome resulted in Las Noches losing a good portion of its domed roof, as well as segments of the five towers.

Las Noches Locations
Tres Cifras (Spanish for "Three Figures") is a part of Las Noches where the Demoted Espada, or Privaron Espada, live. The only known inhabitants are Cirucci Sanderwicci, Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio and Gantenbainne Mosqueda.

About Hell
Hell is a place where Hollows are sent if their former lives were evil. The Zanpakutō of a Shinigami can only cleanse spirits of the sins they committed as a Hollow. If the spirit committed heinous crimes as a Human, it will not be sent to Soul Society, but through the Gates of Hell.

When Ichigo Kurosaki defeated the Hollow Shrieker, he slashes Shrieker's Hollow mask. The Gate appears to be formed from energy or light which emerges from the this wound. The Gates of Hell are chained shut and adorned with the bandaged head and torso of a skeleton on each door. The arms of both skeletons are positioned at an angle to pull the gates open when it is summoned.

On the inside, the Gates appear to be prevented from opening fully by two thick ropes with charms attached to them. The face and left arm of a large demonic creature can be seen behind the Gates. It is unclear if the ropes are intended to keep this creature inside. It has armor plating on its upper arm and it wields a blade. Its left arm and face are covered in tattoos resembling tribal markings. The demon skewers the Hollow entering Hell with its blade and pulls it through the Gates, while laughing. The Gates then close and the entire structure cracks and crumbles into nothing.

About Dangai Precipice World
The Dangai, or Dangai Precipice World to be specific (sometimes called "The Severed World"), is the dimension between Soul Society and the Human World.[1] It was first used in order for Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends to invade Soul Society, through Urahara's Senkaimon. The Dangai was later shown in the Arrancar and Captain Amagai Arcs, by Ulquiorra Cifer to kidnap Orihime Inoue and the 3rd Division to kill a group of Menos Gillian respectively. It appears to have bones, scattered all across the floor, and some other more prominent skeletal remains while the entire dimension itself is dark, purple and gelatinous, moving like a creature.

The Dangai Precipice World was an integral plot-device for the first Bleach feature length film, Bleach: Memories of Nobody. It inadvertently spawned the Valley of Screams, and was revealed to play a role in the creation of Blanks.

Defenses
Naturally, the Dangai has some defenses against Hollows and other spiritual beings attempting to pass through the realm. This is why Shinigami are the only ones who can truly use it efficiently for travel between both the world of the living and the Soul Society.

Kouryū is the current that is constantly flowing through the Dangai, in order to prevent enemies such as Hollows from using it. The current stops souls from moving, and even one foot caught by it makes escape almost impossible. It encompasses the walls, capturing anyone who makes contact with them. Attempting to traverse the Dangai, Uryū Ishida and Ichigo Kurosaki (attempting to save Uryū using his Zangetsu) were almost captured by the current. Luckily only his cape was caught, and Chad was able to break him free. Upon their escape to Soul Society, Orihime Inoue used her Santen Kesshun to block the Janitor, composed of the kouryū, and escape, but Yoruichi Shihōin berated her for this action; while the Kouryū only touched the shield area of her ability, had any one of Orihime's Shun Shun Rikka been touched by the current, the entire group would have been killed. If a Shinigami's Zanpakutō is used or revealed, they are also trapped by the current.

Janitors
A Janitor (seimichiō; Cleaner in the English Dub), is the Dangai's equivalent to a street sweeper. The Janitor appears once every seven days to cleanse the area, killing anyone, and everything that makes contact with it. It looks like the same material making up the Precipice World, only moulded into the shape of a bullet train, and a golden eye at the upper-center of it's body. If a Janitor touches a Zanpakutō or other spiritual weapon, the user and weapon are trapped, since the Janitor's body is flowing with the Kouryū current. The only person shown defeating a Janitor is the anime-only captain, Shūsuke Amagai, using his Zanpakutō's projectile ability (protecting himself from the current) to obliterate it. This implies that a Janitor can be "killed" with a sufficiently powerful attack, at least from a distance.

Time-Space Difference
Being an entirely separate area of space, the Dangai Precipice World has a completely different form of time than the human world, and Soul Society. For example, Ichigo trained for 10 days in the living world, waited 7 days for the Senkaimon, and spent 5 days total afterwards before his 3-Day Bankai training. Logically speaking this is a total of 25 days, which is exactly (at the time) one day before Rukia's execution after Ichigo's training is complete. However, as luck would have it after being chased by the Janitor, Yoruichi and the Ryoka entered a twisted time-space tunnel when they escaped the Dangai, making their actual arrival to Soul Society about 7 days earlier. This was stated by Yoruichi in her thoughts on the first day of training, so this left a total of 2 days training left, and 8 days following the training that could possibly be used as an extension.

About Blanks

The Blanks are souls without memories that live in the Valley of Screams. Blanks are instinctively attracted to memories, and they followed Senna to the Human World because she was the Memory Rosary. Unlike Pluses, Blanks do not have Chains of Fate, and are unaffected by soul burial.

Appearance
The Blanks appear to be large, white ghosts with pink pin-shaped heads. Their appearance changes only when they are attacking, changing their heads color red, and revealing red arms and hands. They also change back to their former appearance as a Plus while in the presence of the Memory Rosary, but only demonstrated this once.

Synopsis Creation
All Souls migrate between the world of the living and the Soul Society. From time to time however, there are souls who for some reason become detached in the cycle of transmigration while in the Dangai Precipice World. These souls wander aimlessly from the Dangai, and are slowly drawn together over a period of time. As the souls come together it causes a new dimension to open, hence The Valley of Screams. In the Valley of Screams the souls separate into memory and energy, then return to the cycle of transmigration. The memories left from blanks fuse together and return to the living world in the form of "The Shinenju." The Blanks were eventually found by The Dark Ones, and they learned to use them in order to further their own power.[1]

Memories of Nobody
The Blanks were used by The Dark Ones for many purposes, ranging from restoring themselves to attacking their foes. When Senna was placed at the center of the Valley of Screams, the proximity intensifies the Blanks' desire to seek their memories. This drives them to rush towards the Memory Rosary, creating a vacuum, causing the Valley of Screams to restrict and the Dangai Precipice World to collapse, pulling the Soul Society and the Human World together in a massive collision. They surround Senna, and begin to collide both worlds, until she is freed. Senna then sacrifices all of her energy, which were actually the Blanks' memories, in order to stop the worlds from colliding. She stated that she was no longer afraid of them since they were just like her: Souls without memories.[2]

Powers and Abilities While not very strong by themselves, the Blanks gain many powers when gathered together, such as:

Culminative Strength: While in large numbers, the Blanks can be used to keep an enemy down, increasing their strength with each individual Blank. A group of Blanks were strong enough to keep a unit of the Special Tasks Force held down.
Self-Destructive Explosion: Blanks can grab onto an enemy and hold them still while they explode, killing both their opponent and themselves. With about a dozen Blanks the explosion can be very large. Blanks used this ability to kill a unit of the Special Tasks Force.
Blanks can be harnessed by Dark Ones for various purposes. The most prominent uses are listed below:

Shapeshifting: When used by one of the Dark Ones, Blanks can be transformed into swords, projectiles, objects or any form of weapon the person can imagine. The form a Blank takes depends only on the one who wields it.
Regeneration: Blanks can replace a Dark One's limbs, as shown by Jai when he restored his right arm with a Blank.

About Valley of Screams
The Valley of Screams is a dimension that forms in between the Human World and the Soul Society, stemmed from the Dangai Precipice World. It can only be accessed from the Human World. Blanks resided in this place, separated from their memories until they come in contact with the Shinenju. It is a regular occurrence that happens naturally due to souls getting lost trying to get to Soul Society. The Dark Ones claimed this to be their homeland until they would invade the Soul Society.

The Shinigami that came here to help Ichigo Kurosaki rescue the Shinenju were Renji Abarai, Rukia Kuchiki, Byakuya Kuchiki, Tōshirō Hitsugaya, Ikkaku Madarame, Yumichika Ayasegawa, Kenpachi Zaraki, Yachiru Kusajishi, Soifon, Izuru Kira and Shūhei Hisagi. It looked very similar to the underground Training Area created by Kisuke Urahara, only the size of it was on a worldly scale. The area in which the main event of the story took place was in an rocky area with many canyons and mountains.

In the movie Bleach: Memories of Nobody, the Valley of Screams expands to a point where it connects Soul Society and the Human World. The Dark Ones attempt to collapse this dimension in order to force Soul Society and the Human World to collide. This collision would have resulted in the destruction of both, fulfilling their need to gain revenge for their exile over a millennia prior to the story.
